Soresina is an historic and elegant market town in the province of Cremona, Lombardy.
It has a long and important history which is testified by the numerous palazzi and elegant buildings throughout the town. It's location in the Lombardian plains, in an agriculturally rich area meant that it became an important centre of trade. The Soresina Market, which is held every Monday morning, is over 500 years old.
The Latteria di Soresina, established in 1900, producing its famous brands of Grana Padano DOP cheese and other high quality dairy products which are exported all over the world, is located on the edge of the town.
Soresina is also famous for its theatre - Teatro Sociale - with its stunning auditorium, founded in 1873 by a Society of Opera enthusiasts who wanted to have in their small town, a prestigious theatre to be compared with the ones of Milan, Cremona and Parma.
Soresina has 7 beautiful churches in the town, the largest and principal one being the Chiesa di San Siro built in the 16th century.
An observatory - Osservatorio astrononico pubblico di Soresina - is located close to the church of San Siro. The cupola is open in summer for viewing the night sky.
The nearest important town to Soresina - reached hourly by train - is Cremona, a world famous destination for violinists. It is the birth place of Stradivari, and today there are still many violin makers practicing their craft in the city. It is home to a famous violin museum - Museo di violino - and the Faculty of Musicology. Cremona also has a beautiful cathedral, a medieval bell tower, Torrazzo, which is the highest bell tower in Europe and now houses a museum, a baptistry and medieval town hall located in the central Piazza Duomo. A busy market is held every Wednesday and Saturday.
